M3 Grant Tank
$6.50
This is a 3D printed M3 Grant tank from the WW2 era. The M3 Lee and M3 Grant were medium tanks used by the United States and its allies during World War II, designed as an interim solution to meet the urgent demand for armored vehicles. Named after different historical figures—General Robert E. Lee for the U.S. version and General Ulysses S. Grant for the British-modified variant—these tanks featured a distinctive sponson-mounted 75mm gun and a turret-mounted 37mm gun, providing significant firepower for their time. The M3 Lee saw extensive use by American forces in North Africa, while the M3 Grant, modified with a lower-profile turret and additional radio equipment, was employed by British and Commonwealth forces in the same theater. Despite their innovative dual-gun configuration, the tanks were criticized for their high silhouette, limited maneuverability, and outdated design, which made them vulnerable to German anti-tank weapons. By 1943, they were largely replaced by the more advanced M4 Sherman, but the M3 Lee and Grant played a crucial role in early Allied campaigns, providing valuable combat experience and helping to bridge the gap until better tanks became available. Their robust chassis also served as the basis for various specialized variants, such as tank destroyers and recovery vehicles. The M3's production, exceeding 6,000 units, underscored its importance in equipping Allied forces during a critical period of the war.
